This was our port in Ephesus, Turkey. Obviously, there is a large historical and biblical background here (think the book of Ephesians in the Bible). The water was beautiful here just like in Santorini.

This isnt much of a picture (minus the cool sun rays) unless you know the significance of the building behind us. This is where the Virgin Mary lived out the rest of her life and later died after Christ's death. It was very serene and calm here-- a little hard to explain, but you could certainly feel how special the place was.

The Greeks were here long before the Bible stories-- think the Trojan war and the Illiad and Odyssey, that is why there is Greek writing all over a lot of the ruins and this is also why the ruins resemble that which we saw in Athens at the Acropolis and the Parthenon.

More ruins... there were a lot of them.
5
This is what is left after thousands of years. We had a hard time imagining how beautiful this place would have been in its prime.
6
The best preserved of all the ruins here in Ephesus.
7
A closer up of the same well-kept ruins.
8
More of the same.
9
A large coliseum.
10
This is the castle/church where the tomb of St. John is. Not a whole lot left of it now, but it was a pretty place as well.
11
Same thing.
12
The actual tomb of St. John.
13
Tori liked all the column tops laying around.
14
This is a mosque that is visible from St. John's tomb.

And here is the other side of Ephesus... when you get tired of seeing all the ancient history, you can find any upscale resort with beautiful beaches, clear water, and really anything you want to do. I don't know what we expected of Turkey, but we were very pleasantly surprised.
