This is the highest point on the island of Santorini. Santorini is one of 3,000 Greek islands. It is known for its wine, capers, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, and obviously sea food.

A better look at the island. It was wider than I realized and actually houses a full up international airport. Obviously this island's main source of revenue is tourism. I think coming here in the off-season would be a great experience.

A beautiful Greek orthodox church. The houses and churches are painted white here so as to reflect the light and make them cooler on the inside. It is pretty hot in the summer months here and it never rains in the summer. That is why the sky is always so deep blue and absent of clouds.

You can also see how deep blue the Mediterranean sea (technically the Aegean Sea) is. The island was formed after the largest volcano eruption in our planet's history. This is why the landscape is so harsh and jagged. It's a wonder they can grow anything here.

The iconic crosses of Santorini with the white tops and blue sky/water.
6
The other iconic blue top churches of the island. The sun was so bright for this picture!

You have absolutely no idea how hard we worked to get this picture looking like this. We probably had 5 different people take and then retake the picture. I dont know why it is so hard for people to take a good picture! Finally, this was the best we could manage. Nevertheless, it is probably my favorite for this island.

Best food ever. This little Greek restaurant has its own wine made for it, its own olive oil made for it at a tiny little farm, and makes all food from scratch to include its ice cream. We tried to buy their wine and olive oil, but they dont even bottle or sell it--anywhere. It comes from a Greek farmer down the road. We are having sea bass and octopus--it was delicious. Some of the best food of the whole trip. Not to mention the Greek salad that came before this-- all vegetables grown from the same farmer and swimming in the olive oil. After the vegetables were gone, we lapped up that oil with their homemade bread. OMG.

Some of the little shops and narrow streets here.

Our ship in the harbor there.

Not a bad place to grab a drink and a bite to eat huh?

Most people ride a cable car down to the harbor, but the line was so long that we decided to walk down. As you can see, others choose to ride donkeys up or down. And, while they make for good pictures, you need to understand how bad it smelled. Imagine 90 degree weather with hundreds of donkeys walking past you and poo'ing all over these steps. The smell was so bad I had to physically plug my nose. I hate having such a big sniffer.

Our tender back to the ship. Food on the ship was good, but after the local produce in their greek salads and fresh seafood, it paled in comparison. Sorry, I can see you all rolling your eyes.
